Confidence or delusion? Sometimes the line is blurred.
I recently heard this quote and I can’t get it out of my head. One, because I find it funny and, two, because it made me think of the conversations I have with so many women. Not because they are delusional, though. Let me explain…..
“I want to be confident in the outfits I choose.” is the most common thing I hear women share when I ask why she wants to hire a personal stylist. But confidence doesn’t show up once new items arrive in your closet.
First, you have to find the courage to choose to wear the clothes and allow yourself to be seen. That can be scary as crap! What will people say? Will they think you are trying too hard? Will you look ridiculous? I know you have a lot of doubts.
There is no way you can be confident in your style, in your clothes, if you don’t have evidence or proof that you can do it. If you have never taken the risk of wearing something new or bold or made a change then how can you be confident it’ll work out?
You build that muscle just like with a new workout program. You don’t know if you can take that muscle beyond its limitations...until you try. After you have successfully done your first pull up or completed your first box jump, then your mind encourages you to do it again because you have done it before. You create muscle memory but, for our purposes, let’s call it style memory! Your confidence to create your own style builds with trial and time.
In the spirit of building style confidence, I have created this free 14 day outfit planner. This is to help give you a guide, to build the confidence you desire.
I do want to end with this. I want to encourage you. It only takes once to prove to yourself that you can wear the dress. You can rock the boots. You can be seen in a way that is authentically you. It is possible.
